Rattling noise traced to forward/reverse shuttle clutch pack gear tolerances. Excessive clearances in the gear tolerances causing audible rattling. User unable to resolve through shimming.

Chasing a rattling in a MF1740E. Got it pinpointed to the F/R shuttle clutch pack gear tolerances. No idea how to fix it, can’t add shims to tighten anything up. First tractor I’ve ever split, personally!

Anyone have experience with thr massey Ferguson 1740e with the bh3222 backhoe attachment? I was struck this weekend by the overwhelming urge to buy one. Im curious how well it digs on a 40 hp tractor. Ive ran backhoes, minis and a big hoe, but never one of these 3 point things. It it one of those deals where its going to be so slow I may as well rent a real backhoe whenever I need to dig anything, or is it totally fine for stuff like small foundations, light tile work, waterline repair and the like?
