Plastic hood material cracks and detaches from the tractor during normal use. Reported on both STX38 and LT155 models. User considers the hoods to be cheap quality and suggests a recall is needed.

Hey, i got a John Deere 108 that I'm turning into a gocart sort of thing with stx38 engine i was wondering if anyone has a John Deere stx38 (preferably with the 14hp) if you do, i would hugely appreciate it if you could take a picture of the throttle and governor system. thank you so much.

Today I took apart the carburetor on my John Deere STX38. Beforehand it would turn over but not start. Afterwards the same behavior. I decided to change the spark plug. Now the engine will start and immediately die. If I try starting it immediately it never starts. If I wait a few minutes it’ll start and immediately stop again. Any ideas what might be wrong? Thanks!

My in-laws gave us their old John Deere STX38 lawn tractor a year and a half ago. I decided we really don’t have the room to store it and our lawn really isn’t big enough to justify a riding lawnmower. When they gave it to us they said the battery was bad and gave us a new one. I tried starting it today and the engine didn’t even crank. Looking at the manual there’s apparently a PTO switch I need to engage. I couldn’t find the switch. According to the manual it should be on the fender behind the gear shift but all I see there is what appears to be a cup holder. Ultimately I’d like to sell it but I don’t know where to start with that. I presume Craigslist is probably the way to go. What’s the best way to figure out what to price it at? Looks like they bought it in 2013. Thanks for any help.
