Known Issues
I was checking the oil in my mower and noticed that it was about a half a quart low. I have about one or two more cuts this year before winterizing it when I plan to change all filters, plugs and oil, but I can't remember when I last changed the oil. It's been anywhere from 12-24 months. For years this was my grandparents mower and it was serviced annually by the local shop, but I inherited it a few years back and the John Deere shop closed up and left town so I have no real history to look back on regarding previous levels. The engine runs well and I don't notice any smoke or odd smells or running hot or anything of that nature and I park it on a clean spot in the carport and there's never any oil under it, even after sitting for a while. My question is: "is half a quart of oil a year (or two) a reasonable/normal and acceptable amount of oil for the engine to "use" up in normal operations?" I apologize for the basic question but my knowledge of mower engines, while growing slowly, is still mostly lacking. Thanks for any feedback.
