Fuel shut-off solenoid on carburetor fails to retract into its housing, preventing fuel from reaching the carburetor. Engine shuts off suddenly and will not restart. Solenoid receives electrical signal but does not engage mechanically.

E110 Riding Lawn Mower - Major issues for 4 mos old. I purchased this machine in May 2019. It's October. I have 6.7 hours on it. The other day, it wouldn't stay running, which is normal. I turned it off then on a few times and smoke from the engine went flying out for about 5 min! It's under warranty but I have to take it from West Point, UT, to Tremonton, UT. I'm a single gal. Not sure how I'm go

Hopefully this will help one of the poor souls who experience their JD E110 suddenly shutting off out of the blue and not restarting like mine did. Here's what I tried/checked to remedy the issue: \*Checked for spark. There was spark. I replaced the plug anyway. Wasn't the issue. \*Checked the safety switch the clutch engages. Not the issue. \*Cleaned and tightened the battery terminals and connections. Not the issue. \*Inspected the air filter for blockages or excessive dirt. Not the issue. \*Pulled the fuel filter and blew through it. Not the issue. \*Tapped on the fuel pump & carb in the event they just got stuck. Not the issue. \*Unhooked the fuel line right before the carb and turned the mower over - it pumped gas. No the issue. \*Unhooked the fuel supply AFTER the carb. No fuel. Issue was something with the carb. **\*Took off the Fuel Shut-Off Solenoid that sits on the bottom of the carb and holds the fuel bowl on. Turned the engine over and the solenoid did not retract into its housing, which it should have.** **\*Unhooked the quick connect from the solenoid and tested the wires from that connect to the solenoid with a multi-meter while cranking the engine. They had continuity, so they were not he issue.** **\*The solenoid was not engaging as it should and thereby no fuel was getting to the carb.** **\*For a temp fix, I took lineman pliers and just cut off the pointed tip (valve stem/plunger) to keep the solenoid 'always open'. Obviously this can be a safety hazard so proceed at your own risk. I ordered a replacement solenoid, but put it all back together with the cutoff valve/plunger and it ran as it should.**

I took delivery 9 days ago, not past fri but fri before. I started it up when I got home (wife signed) and it was surging. Bought from a dealer and they sold me on them going through it for an hour, full tank of gas, for same price as Home Depot or Lowes. I started it again the day after, surging issue persisted but got through cutting my 3/4 acre. I was coming from an 04 L100. I started it again yesterday, surging still, but needed to get in a cut and I’d call the dealer Mon. Within 30 seconds of driving w out blade engaged it stalls. I try to restart but got nowhere, had to push back into my shed. Left it overnight and no start. I’m going to have the dealer look at it next week, who knows how long this will take, but anyone have any insight? Do dealers prioritize warranty claims on brand new equipment? Main thing I can’t deal with is waiting, have no other way to cut my yard except a push mower which would bog out and take 5 hours. All this aside I was trying to create an account with john deere financial online, and is the slowest website I’ve been on in a while which also stalled out many times. I couldn’t set up my financials once I eventually was able to make an account, the 2 step authentication then ended up stalling, which after many additional attempts there presented an insurmountable road block. I have fiber internet with no issues otherwise. Not a great experience overall thus far *5/6 got ahold of dealer and they are going to prioritize it since it’s so new, which was good. I ended up getting it to turn over just barely for about 3 seconds this AM before it died again. Clearly there’s something up with the fuel delivery, probably a defective pump. I’ll report back once they figure it out
