8N vs. JD950 vs. Satoh 650

Well, looks like my father’s 9N rotted away a few years too long, and it’s going to cost more to get it back in working order than it’s worth. So I’m in the market. Around me, I’ve found a few 8Ns, a JD950, and a Satoh 650. I’m looking for something to haul things around, like firewood and soil, pull logs out of the woods, and some basic implements for the garden. - 8N: Would be an upgrade from the 9N and is readily available. I’m not sure if the lack of live PTO and hydraulics will have a significant impact. If we wanted to do something like post hole digging, we wouldn’t be able to ourselves, but I do think it has the capacity to lift enough. I’ve seen some with loaders, but that seems like a rarity. We also really love the old tractor aesthetic and one that I have on the list looks amazingly cared for - 950: A good bit more expensive, but it seems like you’re getting a good bit more tractor than the 8N. I don’t know the age yet, so I don’t know if it has the transmission or two-stage clutch. Also don’t know if it has power steering, a loader, or a locking differential. He’s asking twice the price of the 8N, and I’m waiting on info and pics of this one. - Satoh 650: I know next to nothing about this one, other than it’s priced similarly to the 8N. How does it compare to the other two? How are they to work on and to find parts for?

John deere 950 question
low

I looked around and as best as I could figure, this looks like the best place to ask? Anyways, I wanted to run this by some other tractor folks. I'm currently draining the hydro fluid out of our 950 (1979 year). The hydraulics were working when we bought the tractor, albeit not the best but it did still lift the bush hog. So now we're not getting any lifting on the 3 point at all, not even by itself or is own weight. Fluid level was coming up as full but it appeared to have some cavitation (air). Draining the fluid it seems to have some water streaking. My next step is I'm removing the sump filter. I didn't see any external canister filter on this tractor. The hydro stop valve is open. I don't have a hydraulic pressure valve to check pressures. Has anyone ever had issues with the pumps going out? From what I've read this is unlikely. Any ideas I would appreciate, il be working on it tonight. Thanks.

1985 JD 950 at end of its road?
low

I've had a 1985 JD 950 4WD with about 2300 hours and front end loader. Been a good little work horse for the 20 years I used. I put 75 hours or so per year on it. Probably 10 years ago I had the motor overhauled when it lost compression. Was great for next 8 years or so. About when COVID started, started to get what was exhaust gas in coolant and would turn overflow into a geyser eventually. None of local mechanics wanted to deal with it. I bought a 1987 JD 1050 with 800 hours to replace it and had the front in loader transferred to it. Loved the old 950 though and after watching tons of YouTube videos took her apart with some friends, installed new head gasket, thermostat, etc. Started her up and all was great for 50 minutes and then could see bubbles entering overflow reservoir and soon geyser as before. No water in oil. I am gonna buy kit to confirm exhast gas in coolant. I am not a mechanic but do pride myself on being able to build and repair most things. SO, any advice? Local tractor dealer will only give me $1000 for her. Don't know if he'd fix her or part her out. Considering parting her out myself so at least part of her lives on and because I'm retired and have to stay busy. Suggestions?
