Hi!I'm a grounds maintenance person/handyman for several small/medium HOA's and some small commercial buildings and I'm looking at a tractor. The first issue I want to tackle would be snow removal during the winter here in the rocky mountains of Colorado. We're not getting record breaking amounts of snow, the occasional \~1-2ft but most fall into the \~4-8" range. My HOA's all use an outside snow plow company with something like a CAT 920 for snow removal but most have a clause of 4" or more and take poor care of the grounds, anything from cracking asphalt with a heavy machine, destroying lawn edges/features and not being able to pile snow back far enough. The simple solution might be to have someone haul off the excess snow but that typically is in the $5000+ range for haul off. When vehicles eventually move from their spot there's spots where snow lingers and in many cases with head in parking next to the building there's a 4' high line of snow that takes a little bit for our tracked Honda to get through. I do know a pickup (F150/1500/250/2500) with a plow isn't enough for sure and at least one property hires out a company with multiple skid steers to accomplish their snow removal. So this brings me to a shortage in labor, drivers, equipment, and the overall 'we'll get there when we get there' attitudes that companies here have and now wanting to keep everything in house, I own the equipment, I operate it, I can use it when I please. In looking at some options, skid steers seem really expensive and I've used one and didn't like the experience. My father uses his Ford F150 and a plow for some plow work and I don't like that either since you run into the issue of creating piles and not pushing them far back. I'm not really digging a pickup truck mounted snow blower either, ATV's and side by sides are a no as well since no bucket. Anybody out there with experience running any JD loader tractor with an IVT transmission? We're looking at buying something around 175-200hp mostly as a field tractor but with a loader on it for moving hay and packing a silage pile, except our sales rep keeps saying how the IVT is a bad choice for loader because they cant take the forward/reversing abuse that usually comes with a loader. We have a 7920 with IVT with 5000hrs, no issues, seems pretty bulletproof to us, and on sites like tractorhouse we see lots of loader tractors with IVTs. Anyone with experience out there care to chime in? Is our sales rep talking nonsense? It mostly seems like he has a stigma against it more than anything.
