Raw gasoline leaking from fuel pump mounted directly above muffler, spraying 3-4 inches onto muffler plate. Multiple internet reports of tractors catching fire due to this defect. Fuel pump positioned dangerously close to hot muffler creating ignition hazard.

Smoking from the front of the tractor (Fire Hazard John Deere Model 345 lawn tractor) and upon inspection, there was raw gas shooting out in a stream 3 to 4 inches hitting a plate mounted above the muffler. Charge light illuminates when PTO is engaged. Stator produces 35V AC output, but regulator outputs only battery voltage (12.4V at idle, drops to 12.3V with PTO engaged). All other charging system components test good (AC input, ground, switched power, battery wiring). Suspected faulty voltage regulator.

Solenoid failed in the beginning of the third season. When replacing the solenoid, the positive connector (copper) snapped off at the base of the crimp, indicating poor connector design or quality.

Z345M .Solenoid went out on the beginning of third season. Bought the part and while putting it in, the positive connector (copper) snapped off at the base of the crimp. I had previously bought a Cub cadet and the block cracked on season 3.5. Went with a John Deere hoping that the quality was better! Well unfortunately it wasn’t and they continue to make cheap products to keep the dollars flowing.
