Known Issues
Looking for a lead on an engine for a JD 2640. My husband lost his dad this year, and then our 2640 which came from his dad blew the motor. Anyone know where to find a replacement or a good place to get ours rebuilt?
I am getting myself prepared to do a brake job on a 79 JD 2640 utility tractor. I’ve got the customary brake lining particles coming out of the transmission sump screen, so its time. My question is, does a normal brake job just consist of replacing the brake disc and slapping a new axle housing gasket on, or do the backing plate, washer and sealing washer generally need to be replaced as well? Can the backing plate be resurfaced if its scored? The axle seals are both sealing fine, so I’m not planning on digging in any further than the brakes at this point. We use this tractor weekly, so I’m trying to minimize down time by being prepared with the parts I’ll nee. Ultimately I’d like to avoid spending $1200 dollars on 2 backing plates that I may or may not need. Any help or advice is appreciated. Thank you
