Known Issues
Hey guys and gals. I've got a john deere 2240 that came with a property I purchased. For the first month she ran like a charm, minus the brakes not operating. Did some brush clearing the other day with her the other day, then the next day she would not start. No clicks, not engaging at all. I assumed it was one of the safety features, but double checked them all and still nothing. Today I put a new battery and battery cables on her in case that was an issue. My next guess is starter? I don't mind turning wrenches, but I am not super knowledgeable about tractors in general. Anyways, I figured someone on here has run into this issue before and might have some advice. Thank you for your help!!
This is my first tractor. When I was plowing I had to set my speed by the temperature gauge. 3 low was the fastest I could go without overheating. I’m now discing and it seems like it should be easier on the tractor but 3 low is still about as fast as I can go without overheating. Is this normal or should I start working on the cooling system?
Hello all, I'm wondering if anyone can give me some pointers on what direction to troubleshoot for this. I'm trying to fix an issue with my grandpa's John Deere 2240. I'm fairly inclined mechanicaly, but tractors are new for me. We are having an issue with the 3 point (rocker?) lifting arm lever. I wasn't there when the issue started, but according to my grandpa, one day the lever only worked to raise the rocker arms. Overnight when the tractor sat they would slowly lower. That was the only time they went back down. Now they are permanently stuck in the up position and the lever does nothing. Before tearing into it deeper I'm wondering if there is a simple cause I am just overlooking? Thanks!!

This is my first diesel so don’t know much about them. Was bush hogging and stopped to gas up. When I idled down, the engine bogged down and died. It turned out the bush hogger was still elevated and that appeared to apply an extra load to the engine and bogged it down. Since then, the engine won’t start. It turns with the starter and chugs out sooty smoke, but just won’t “catch” and start up. I tried a puff of starter fluid, and it chugged but didn’t stay running. Any suggestions? I tried draining the fuel in case it pulled water, and switched the air cleaner in case it was clogged. No help. Could it be flooded? Is that even a thing with diesels? Help!
