CA: John Deere Review by Ralph from Covington, LA (1/5 stars) My tractor
medium

My tractor only has 180 hours on it. Several days ago while cutting grass, I heard a loud noise coming from the mower deck. I immediately stopped the tractor and looked at the deck. The idler pulley, the shaft and bearings broke off for no apparent reason. The dealer picked up my mower. Charge is $35. Estimate is $42. I don't understand that when it was obvious what needed to be done. Dealer calle

CA: John Deere Review by David from Sioux City, IA We bought a John Deere
medium

We bought a John Deere G100 and have put a little over 400 hours on it. Recently, it would not go more than 2 feet and stop. It also made a loud grinding noise. I was told by the local John Deere dealer that the transmission was shot and it would be $1800 to fix it! I paid a little over $4000 for this mower thinking it would last forever! I have now been told that this particular mower has transmi

John Deere 2940 Overheated
low

Two weeks my tractor overheated, I discovered the radiator fluid was about a gallon low. Filled it up and it ran at its normal temperature. A few days later I used the tractor and it overheated again, fluid level was fine. I know the impeller can slip on the shaft if there is a overheating event. I replaced the two thermostats and it still wanted to overheat. I replaced the radiator cap and it hasn't overheated since. I used a infrared thermometer to check temps here is what I found. Thermostat housing was 180 degrees which was the setting of the thermostats. Top of the radiator was 156, the upper hose was 150, the lower hose was 70, engine block was 180. Because the lower hose was so much cooler I checked the metal outlet from the engine block where the lower hose connects and it was 180. Where the lower hose connected to the radiator was was 110. I'm confused why the lower hose is so much colder then the operating temperature, 180? I'm concerned the water pump isn't working properly? Thanks

Replacement for 180?
low

I have a JD 180 with the Kawasaki engine (circa 1987) with a factory bagger that is my daily rider. I’m the second owner and the original was a friend of mine who took meticulous care of it, so it’s never been neglected. It’s doing fine but shoot, 38 years old! Is there anything newer that would be a worthy replacement? FB Marketplace has a L130 (2003-2005) with a 48” deck that a guy is selling for $300. He claims the only issue is a cracked hood that makes it open/close oddly. Maybe that’s not “the one” and I’d be disappointed, but it got me thinking. I really don’t know much about the various series and their pros/cons. Any advice is appreciated!
